Sixteen tons of ribs, and a flying T-Rex.

Well, it's coming up on a big weekend here in London for fairs... and I've just poked around one and seen evidence of a second.

The 17th annual London Rib Fest started tonight, and I treated myself to an early visit and feed on my way back from work. The Rib Fest is a benefit for the local Boys and Girls club; the bulk of Victoria Park becomes covered in tents and trailers and the street next to City Hall is turned over to the 11 teams of "ribbers" and their smokey, savoury stands. The newspaper said that they were shipping in 16,000kg of pork ribs for the event, and 5000 ears of corn for side dishes. I think they won't have much left.

It's a delicious feed, but it's shockingly pricey. $20 CAD (~$16 USD) got me a half-rack of ribs, a pulled-pork sandwich, and two cans of pop. Utterly delicious, but sadly I was still a bit hungry at the end. Oh well, it's for a good cause; and if our gang which is getting together on Saturday decides to go I'll willingly go again.

The second event is Balloon Fest, and they must have started launching just as I left the Rib fest. Darned few balloons these days are the traditional round ones, apparently. One amusing balloon floating high above the city was in the shape of a tyrannosaur... it was all I could do not to point to the sky and shout "Gojira! Gojira!"

You bought two cans of fathers? You put your pop in a can? I'm confused.

I use my jargon, dammit. MY jargon. You'll just have to work it out from context like everybody else. Hmphf. So there. Neener-neener.

There is one nickname for fizzy sugar water, and there will only be one. It is Coke.
